Whitehorse, the capital and largest city of the Yukon Territory in northwestern Canada, sits on the Yukon River, North America's third-longest river. Whitehorse is home to one of the world's longest wooden fish ladders that let salmon bypass the hydroelectric dam. The Kwanlin Dün First Nation and the Ta'an Kwäch’än Council lived here and used this river 10,000 years before settlers arrived.

The 'Yukon River' originates in British Columbia, flows through the Yukon Province and west through Alaska before emptying into the Bering Sea. The river has a length of 3,190 km. The 'Yukon River' has a huge water catchment area comparable to the size of all of Italy. For several years during the Klondike Gold Rush, the Yukon River was of great importance as a supply route for steamships from Whitehorse to Dawson City. After the construction of the 'Klondike Highway' in the 1950s, regular boat traffic on the river was discontinued. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yukon_River
