Adjacent south of Santa Monica on the Pacific Coast Highway is Venice Beach. The community was born in 1905 and developed by eccentric millionaire Abbot Kinney, who shaped the site after his favorite Italian city - complete with piazzas and canals. You can still see these canals with quaint, traditional cottages in the Venice Canal Historic District.
