This extremely rare vestige is one of the last witnesses of the mining era.
The existence of a vertical ventilation shaft indicates a considerable development of the network of underground galleries: the natural ventilation which took place in a circuit through the galleries on the hillside was no longer sufficient. This is why in 1908 a vertical ventilation shaft was sunk directly above the rolling gallery towards the gray layer. The chimney incidentally reinforced ventilation.
