The botanical garden, which has existed since 1820, has been located on a former urban site in the northwest corner of the Great Garden since 1893. At that time, it comprised 5,750 plant species on an area of 3.25 hectares and was the first botanical garden in Central Europe to be structured primarily according to plant-geographical aspects.
