The originator of these escalators and their builders deserve great praise. This is certainly appreciated by people who have mobility problems and those with poorer physical condition.

Coming from the west / below in the old town, an old tower towers over the surrounding houses, the Torre dell' Olio. If you then go up towards the escalator in the old town, you will pass it and maybe you will be lucky and the staircase will dazzle you in the sunlight.

The escalator nearby is the quickest way to the old town but - disadvantage - you can't see anything until you get there.
