The ruins of the Convent of San Francisco in Castrojeriz are one of the town's most evocative remains, steeped in history and mystery.
The convent was founded in the 14th century by the Franciscan order, in a sober Gothic style.
During the Peninsular War, the building was burned and left in ruins. Some pointed arches of the central nave and ribbed vaults from the original church are still preserved.
