The Sint-Jan-de-Doperkerk is the parish church of Paal. The current church was built in 1862 to a design by architect Herman Jaminé, who has quite a few churches and government buildings to his name. An existing Gothic church was demolished around the church, which was consecrated in 1877. Inside there is, among other things, a communion rail from 1774 that comes from the abbey of Herkenrode. At the side of the church are some graves of historical prominent people who died in Paal with an information board about who they were (see photos).

Already in 1459 mention was made of 'a capelle standing between Pale and Merlebergh' (Meelberg). In 1513 there was a benefice in favor of the altar of St. John. Due to the distance to the mother church in Beringen, the residents of Paal also wished to elevate the chapel to a parish church. This did not happen until 1716. Construction of the current neo-Romanesque church, during which the existing Gothic church was demolished, began in 1862 and was consecrated in 1877.
