The hospital church and the actual hospital building form an ensemble. The cantilevers of the hospital building, which protrude far above the Wiesent and are supported by sandstone pillars, represent an architectural highlight of the house, which was built in 1611, and testify to the shortage of space within the city walls. In the hospital church from 1490, a wooden sculpture from 1330 is kept, which is one of the oldest of its kind in all of Upper Franconia.

The Katharinenspital is donated in 1328, presumably based on a 12th-century settlement of the Antonites. However, the hospital church of St. Catherine was not built until 1450, but was redesigned in 1728. The sacristy dates from 1490. The altar in the ⛪ dates from 1775, the pulpit from 1700.
The hospital building itself (today a nursing home) connected to the ⛪ with its Renaissance portal and the outstanding half-timbering dates from 1611 in its current condition.
In the ⛪ are two wings of a late medieval altar (late 15th century) attributed to the Master of the Rochus Altar.

In addition to the hospital church, which is literally "under one roof" with the hospital building, a new senior citizens' center is currently being built on the site.
There is a very special treasure in the church, which is several centuries older than the hospital building: a wooden sculpture from 1330 is kept here, which is one of the oldest of its kind in all of Upper Franconia.
