Where today the communities of Rohr and Belrieth lie next to each other, the border between the Kingdom of Prussia and the Duchy of Saxony Meiningen used to run.
The contiguous main part of the country stretches over a length of 133 km with an average width of 16 km in the form of a crescent from the northwestern foot of the Thuringian Forest to the southeast, crosses the Thuringian Forest, runs east past the Franconian Forest to the northern foot of the Thuringian Forest.
