In the event of an extreme Sihl flood, there is a risk of building damage of over 6 billion francs in the city of Zurich alone. A relief tunnel from Langnau am Albis to Thalwil will enable flood peaks from the Sihl to be transferred to Lake Zurich from 2026. This eliminates by far the greatest risk of flooding in the canton of Zurich.

The entire program lasts around 2½ hours. Unfortunately, for safety reasons, it is not possible to inspect the tunnel.

What is not communicated at the information stand: The very complex construction project is to be realized for 175 million Swiss francs, with the canton of Zurich taking on the largest share of the costs. This includes various ecological compensation measures. Let's see if the calculation adds up.

The relief tunnel as far as Thalwil on Lake Zurich should be ready for operation in 2026.
