The church dates from the 17th century and is built in the Baroque style. One of the most outstanding aspects of the church is its tower, which has a height of 40 meters and a decoration that mixes baroque and neoclassical elements. The tower is considered one of the most emblematic monuments of Abengibre.

The Church of Saint Michael the Archangel in Abengibre is a historical and architectural treasure. In 1723, Abengibre obtained its independence as a parish with its own priest and delimited territory. Before that, it was part of the Jorquera Parish along with twelve other towns.
The dispute over the separation of the parishes ended with the death of the parish priest of Jorquera in 1722.
The erection of the new parish was approved in Rome on September 21, 1722 and signed in Murcia on November 8, 1723.
