Here is the monumental church of San Francesco with the adjacent monastery. The building was constructed in 1255, but work continued for several decades and the church was not completed until 1291. According to legend, the saint from Assisi found refuge and protection here at the beginning of the 13th century after leaving his father's house, and it is also here, according to legend, that he wore his habit for the first time.
