Vandring

A church built in the 13th century, known for its Romanesque architecture and for being the place where the first king of Asturias, Don Pelayo, was crowned in the year 718. The church also houses an image of the Virgin of Covadonga, which is very venerated by Asturians. The statue of Don Pelayo is located in the town hall square of Cangas de Onís. Don Pelayo is known for leading the Asturian resistance against the Muslim invasion in the Battle of Covadonga. The statue is a tribute to his legacy and his leadership in the fight against Muslim occupation.
