At first glance unspectacular here but lichen grass, sand dunes, Robinienwald and floodplain - not bad for such a small nature reserve.

The Bollenberg near Gothmann was populated by people in protohistoric times, because on the one hand it offered protection against flooding, on the other hand it allowed immediate access to the Elbe. 200 years ago, the Sude flowed into the Elbe. To protect against flooding, a first continuous dike line along the Elbe was built in the 13th century. These Verwallungen were broken again and again at high tide, then strengthened and partly led around the resulting Kolke (bracks).
