The Bass Harbor Head Light is one of Acadia's most iconic postcard locations, and makes for a splendid sunset location. The trail leading from the parking lot is a couple hundred feet long, accessible, and leads hikers down to the rocks where the lighthouse is framed perfectly against the setting sun. Restrooms are available by the parking lot.

In Maine there are 80 lighthouses, and three are managed by Acadia National Park; Bass Harbor Light Head is the only one on the mainland while the other two are on Baker Island and Bear Island. The Bass Harbor Light Head gets about 180,000 annual visitors, the light station is the most visited and the fifth busiest destination in Acadia National Park.
