Vandring
The Brühl is one of the oldest streets in Leipzig. Originally a medieval trade route, Brühl developed into a center of the global tobacco and fur trade at the beginning of the 20th century. At times up to 800 dealers operated here. During the Second World War, the street's elegant business buildings were almost completely destroyed. Only a few historic buildings have survived, e.g. Gloeck's house on the Brühl/corner of Nikolaistraße.

Leipzig's Brühl became world famous thanks to the fur traders and furriers who had their shops, workshops and warehouses in almost every house here since the middle of the 19th century. Furs and skins, but also the cloth trade, shaped the street (the furriers' guild had already been founded in 1423); in its heyday, more than 11,000 Leipzig residents found work in the fur trade (the Brühl's share of the city's tax revenue was 40% in 1913).
