The church of San Pedro de la Mata is located in the Sonsecan district of Casalgordo and constitutes one of the key monuments in the history and archeology of Late Antiquity and the Early Middle Ages of the Iberian Peninsula.
It is a Visigothic temple built in the second half of the 7th century, specifically in the second half of the 7th century, in the time of King Wamba (672-681).

The church that today is in ruins was built in the 7th century and represents one of the many buildings found in the area that represent Visigothic art. Some studies confirm that during his life it has undergone remodeling when remains of the early medieval period were found.
