Holanský rybník is one of 23 ponds making up the system of Holanský rybník, which is located between Stvolinky and Zahrádky, southwest of Česká Lípa. Holanské Rybníky were created gradually from the 16th to the 17th centuries. Most of them are interconnected and fed by Bobří potok.
The Holanské region lies in a picturesque landscape under the volcanic hills of Ronov and Vlhošť. The central ponds of this system are Dolanský and Holanský rybník. All ponds are for fish farming.

The Biberbach (with the piston water) pours its water into the ponds of Hohlen. These were built for fish farming in the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries, perhaps earlier, and are connected to each other by canals. Today they are primarily an atmospheric leisure paradise, and hundreds of dachas line their banks. On the north bank you can see the remains of the Hostikovic moated castle. On the western edge of the Hohlener Teich the ruins of Kickelsburg (Milčany) rise on a rocky outcrop.
