Located on a hill, the Castillo de San Marcos in Sanlúcar de Guadiana was a strategic enclave for the control of the traffic of the Guadiana river and the Portuguese territory. It offers good views of the municipality, the Guadiana river and the Portuguese city of Alcoutim, on the other side of the border.
