Pierre Cuypers is perhaps the most famous Roermonder who ever lived. As an architect, he designed, among other things, the Rijksmuseum and the Central Station in Amsterdam. But Cuypers mainly focused on the design and restoration of churches.

Petrus Josephus Hubertus Cuijpers, surname generally spelled Cuypers, also known by his first name Pierre, (* 16 May 1827 in Roermond; † 3 March 1921 in Roermond) was a Dutch architect and arts and crafts entrepreneur. He is considered one of the most important architects of historicism. In the last quarter of the 19th century, Pierre Cuypers oversaw the construction or reconstruction of numerous buildings, particularly churches, in the Netherlands and other countries.

"The statue of Pierre Cuypers - Shortly after his death on March 3, 1921, there was a call in Roermond to honor Pierre Cuypers with a monument for his services. However, the realization proved to be quite difficult. It was not until 1929 that the renowned sculptor August Falise designed the bronze statue of Pierre Cuypers, which was ceremoniously unveiled in 1930 in the presence of Prince Hendrik of the Netherlands. The statue of Cuypers looks at one of his profound restorations, the Minster Church..."
