3,400 completely exhausted prisoners from the South Harz concentration camps were driven across the Harz Mountains on April 8, 1945. Nearly 100 were shot in the neck by their guards en route, and two were killed at the Oker train station. From there, the transport continued by train to Ravensbrück concentration camp; from there, the SS drove them on foot to Schwerin, where the surviving prisoners were liberated by American and Soviet soldiers by May 3, 1945.
