The building dates from 1865 and the municipal administration was located here until 1929. The building was then converted into a Tellspielhaus.

Vandring

The foundation stone for the new Tell playhouse was laid in 1924 at the site of the former shooting club and later community center. This meant that the Tell play tradition in Altdorf could be continued, which the Tell play and theater company began in 1899 in a temporary building specially built for it on the Schützenmatte.

In 1999, the Tell playhouse became the property of the municipality of Altdorf.
The office of Tourist Info Uri is also located in the Tell playhouse.
