The Submarine Veteran Memorial stands proudly along the Chicago River's south bank, commemorating World War II submarines. Inspired by a challenge from a combat veteran, this memorial, resembling a submarine bulkhead, honors Manitowoc-built submarines passing en route to WWII. Situated between Columbus Drive and Lake Shore Drive bridges, it serves to keep December 7, 1941, in public memory and pays tribute to all U.S. Navy submariners. The site invites reflection on the vital role submarines played during WWII, fostering awareness and remembrance.
