The Basilica of San Domenico (Baṡéllica d San Mêneg in Bolognese) is located in Bologna. This sanctuary houses the remains of the eponymous saint, founder of the Dominican Order. He died in 1221 in a cell of the adjacent monastery he founded, where the first general chapters of the Order were held.
The marble tomb, known as the Arca di San Domenico, is the work of Niccolò Pisano and his students, with contributions from Niccolò dell’Arca, Michelangelo Buonarroti, Alfonso Lombardi and Jean–Baptiste Boudard.
