The Catholic parish church Maria Himmelfahrt was founded in the 13th century by the Teutonic Order. However, only the tower with double arcades divided by Ionic columns on the upper floor has been preserved. The rest was gradually renovated from 1950 to 2012.

The patronage "Maria (or Mariä) Himmelfahrt" of this Waldbreitbacher church refers to one of the many days of commemoration or feast days in honor of the mother of God Maria. It goes back to the feast of their physical acceptance into heaven, which the Church celebrates annually on August 15th.
In many rural areas it is common for the people to collect herbal bundles (called "Kruggweusch" in the Rhenish dialect) and bless them in the festive service on this day.
