Jaak Beertens, grandson of "Mieneke", was born in Hoeve Mieneke. He lived with his parents and brothers in the farm of his "grandmother" from the time of his birth in 1943 until 1952. He talks about his grandmother, but also extensively about what life in the farm was really like, down to the smallest details and with lots of memories and explanations about the different rooms in the house. Vandring

In 1954 the municipal council bought the Kelchterhoef domain. From 1956, Hoeve Mieneke became a bivouac place, later a public café.
The farm was renovated several times over the years until it was closed in 2002 for safety reasons. In 2018, the municipality had the farm restored to its 19th century situation.
When Hoeve Mieneke was converted into a public café in 1972, the swamp opposite the farm was transformed into a pond that you can walk across today via the boardwalk.

Vandring

In 2020, the area around the farm was redesigned by Regional Landscape Lage Kempen. To support and supplement this project, IOED Lage Kempen provided educational access with an information board and the Heritage App with subsidies from the Province of Limburg. An interview with Jaak Beertens, Mieneke's grandson, served as the basis for the reconstruction of the farm's garden. The images are included in the Heritage App together with the family's photo album. You can consult the information in the Heritage App by scanning the drawing of the information panel.
