The Aarhus Teater in Aarhus is the largest provincial theater in Denmark. The current theater was built at the end of the 19th century to replace the old theater, which had been nicknamed Svedekassen (The Sweathouse). As Aarhus had grown into Jutland's largest city during the 19th century, the old theater had become too small to meet public demand. A new building was designed by the Danish architect Hack Kampmann (1856-1920), and construction began on August 12, 1898. Just two years later, the Aarhus Theater was completed and inaugurated on September 15, 1900.

It was built to replace the old Svedekassen Theater. Aarhus grew into Jutland's largest city during the 19th century, and the old theater had become too small for the audience. A new theater was built on August 12, 1898, based on a design by the Danish architect Hack Kampmann. After two years of construction, it was completed and inaugurated on September 15, 1900. The building was built in the Danish Skønvirkestil - a mixture of Art Nouveau, Heimatstil and National Romanticism - and is now a listed building.
