The Lioness of Gerona or, also called the Lioness's Ass, is a calcareous stone sculpture from the 12th century. The figure is bulky in relief, and has a damaged part of the face and tail.
It is one of the tourist icons par excellence.
The saying goes in Catalan: "Només podràs return to Girona if you have fetó a petó al cul de la lleona". Its translation would be: "You will only return to Girona if you give the lioness a kiss on the ass". That is why the statue has metal stairs at its base.
