Vandring

The Hertme open-air theater was built in 1955 on the initiative of the then pastor of the church village, Pastor Veeger. The theater is located in the woods next to the church. Over the years, the theater has moved with the times and is still used as a cultural meeting place with a versatile range of performances and events. The theater is also characterized by the medieval city wall, which was made of sandstone during construction.

The theater was built in 1955 on the initiative of Pastor Jan Veeger, who led the first passion play in Hertme in 1953, where he was appointed pastor of the St. Stephanus parish in 1952. The first play, Vondel's Joseph in Dothan, was performed on the Heide am Wetering in Hertme. Under the patronage of the Eerste Twentse Openluchtspelen (ESTO) Foundation, a permanent decoration was created from Bentheimer sandstone from 1954 onwards with many volunteers on the site next to St. Stephen's Church.
