Celje Castle is arguably the most famous and largest castle ruin in all of Slovenia. In the Middle Ages, it was the seat of the Celje family – one of the most powerful aristocratic families in Europe. The castle, like the city center of Celje, is surrounded by greenery. Slovenia's largest medieval castle, a fortress on top of the hill, still towers over all roads leading to the center of Celje. After a tour, you can relax in the picturesque surroundings.

The Princely City of Celje in Slovenia offers archaeological treasures, a modern urban flair, and bears the "Slovenia Green" environmental quality label (for a green future). Traces of the first settlement date back to the Iron Age. The present-day city was known to the Romans as Celeia. In the Middle Ages, it grew into a market town. Ultimately, one of the most powerful noble families in all of Europe – the Counts of Celje – significantly shaped the city's interior.
