The northernmost tufa church in the Ribe area. It was built in the Romanesque period from 1100 - 1250 and then expanded and rebuilt several times.
The wall made of tuff and granite squares with the pilaster strips and arched friezes characteristic of tufa churches is in the original parts.
The tower is built much later and, unusually, at the north-west end of the nave. The tower now has a gabled roof, but originally it had five spires: four in the corners and the fifth in the middle, high enough for sailors to use as a guide.
