At the end of 1932, Ernst Steinhusen acquired the building complex of the former brewery and set up a "modern sound film theater" there.
The classicist Burgtheater was built in 1950 under the direction of the architect Cäsar Pinnau. Ratzeburg's cinema is still located here today.

This is exactly how you imagine a classical theater to be. If the performances are of a similar quality to the exterior then there's bound to be a lot going on here. But that would be an exception...

Vandring

The history of the building that became the Burgtheater in 1950 goes back a long way. The powder cellar underneath dates back to the 17th century, when Ratzeburg was expanded into a fortress. In addition to the actual fortifications, various powder and provisions vaults were also built at that time, which were mainly built on the south and east sides of the city island, where they were less at risk from bombardment.
