The highlight in this baptismal church are the Menabuoi frescoes, one of the most important and best-preserved painting cycles of the 14th century. The hundred or so picture fields cover all the wall surfaces and the dome. Illustrated are scenes from the Gospel, the first and last books of the Bible and the life of John the Baptist, the patron of all baptisteries. The dome fresco shows Christ as Pantocrator, surrounded by the hosts of angels and accomplished ones.
