City gate to the port of Veere.
The name of this centuries-old town inn recalls the original name of the town that was formerly called Campveere. It was built between 1358 and 1390 when Veere received town charter and was busy walling the town. The tower was part of the fortifications, as were the other towers and gates that loomed up in strategic locations around the city. The Campveerse Toren and the Powder Tower, which used to be on the other side of the harbor, are shown in the city coat of arms.

Half-round defense tower of about 1500. Together with the 1630 collapsed Kruittoren he guarded the entrance of the port. The whitewash at Campveerse Toren is reminiscent of whale hunting, which was also operated from 1618-1670 from Veere. Since 1560 the tower is also used as a hostel. Today it houses a hotel with restaurant.
