Parish church in the town of Tofori, but above all it is a place of Marian devotion, a destination for the faithful of the Lucca area. It stands at the top of a hill with an exceptional view over the plain of Lucca and the Valdinievole. Church dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta. Recent internal renovation and maintenance works.

The patronage of this church, "SANTA MARIA ASSUNTA" (in German: "Assumption of Mary"), refers to one of the many feast days or commemorations in honor of the Virgin Mary. It commemorates the Feast of the Assumption of Mary into Heaven, which the Catholic Church celebrates annually on August 15th. In the Orthodox Christian churches, this feast is called the Dormition of the Virgin Mary.

In many rural areas, it was formerly customary for the people to gather bundles of herbs on this special day and have them blessed during the festive church service; this custom is still occasionally practiced today.
