    Instead of the "Alteburg" that was destroyed in 1382, a magnificent half-timbered house was built around 1547, surrounded by the moat. Under Philip the Magnanimous of Hesse, this was given to the von Gründerrode family as a fief and served, among other things, as their widow's seat. The building is now privately owned.
