Großeutersdorf was mentioned in a document as early as the 12th century with a church. The crypt under the chancel with its barrel vault is the oldest part of the church. The choir tower was built around 1500. The thick walls and loopholes emphasize the defensive character of the church. The sacrament niche with an iron door and carved figures in the chancel also date from this period. In 1842 the upper octagonal floor was added to the choir tower.

The single-nave nave was built in neo-Gothic style after the old church tower was demolished in 1880. The three-sided galleries were designed in the same style. The organ was installed in 1890 by Carl Loesche from Rudolstadt. This organ was renovated in 2009. The oldest Dorate bell was installed in 1506. In 1882 the middle bell was added. The smallest bell dates from the 17th century and was recast in 1834. In 1917 it was confiscated and in 1937 a replacement was bought, which in turn was confiscated in 1942 for war purposes.
