St. Michael's Church is the oldest building in Southampton.
Construction began in 1070, but only the tower remains from that time. It was enlarged in the 13th to 15th centuries by adding side wings.
The church is worth seeing:
- The baptismal font made of black Belgian marble from 1170.
- The Holy Rood lectern.
- The tomb of Richard Lyster from 1553.
- The Jacobean cupboard from the early 17th century.
- The wool merchants' sign (in the lady's chapel, left window frame)
