The Bismarck memorial has stood on Schloßstraße in Bad Bentheim since 1901. In 1869, the later Chancellor Otto von Bismarck (1815-1898) visited the spa town of Bad Bentheim. In his honor, the veterans' association commissioned the sculptor August Schmiemann from Münster to create the 2.90 m high figure from Bentheim sandstone. It stands below Bentheim Castle on the Bismarckplatz named after him. On June 16, 1901, the memorial was ceremoniously unveiled in the presence of the Prince of Bentheim-Steinfurt.
