The Dieventoren is a medieval tower in the city of Amersfoort. The tower is part of the monumental Muurhuizen and a national monument. The year the tower was built is not fully known. This is the only surviving tower of the oldest city wall. Since it is a square tower, there is a possibility that it is a relatively old tower (round towers were more resistant to cannons). The tower could therefore have been built before, during or after the construction of the first city wall in the 14th century.

This striking, square, high building was part of the city's protective wall and the city's prison until the 19th century.
The passage in the gate is a faulty 20th century restoration. The Dieventoren, house number 97, is also called 'Latijntje' because the Latin school used to be there.

The tower was first mentioned in 1434, when it was put into use as a second city prison. That is why the tower was given the name Dieventoren. The tower was probably not demolished after the construction of the second city wall around the city, because the prison was located in the tower. When the first prison under the Amersfoort town hall was closed in 1554, it was the only prison that remained.
