The whitewashed brick building used to be the office and residence of the magistrate who ran the administrative business and the patrimonial court in the old glory days. He wrote socially critical books, poems and plays. His best-known work is the homeland song of the East Frisians "In Ostfreesland is best. He brought Low German back into the literature.

Enno Wilhelm Hektor was a German writer born on November 21, 1820, in Dornum, East Frisia. In addition to training as a clerk with a lawyer, he began writing fairy tales and poems at an early age. He became known as the author of socially critical books, poems, and plays. He also published in Low German. His most famous work is the East Frisian homeland song "In Oostfreesland is’t am besten."
