"Nursing is an art," remarked Florence Nightingale, probably the most famous nurse in the world. The exhibition at the Kaiserswerth Nursing Museum reveals what lies behind this “art”. How long have people been caring for their fellow human beings? And who are the many women and men who care for the sick and the elderly every day? And last but not least: What will the care of the future look like? Answers to all these questions can be found in the Nursing Museum in Kaiserswerth.

Kaiserswerth is the cradle of diakonia in Germany. Pastor Fliedner founded it in Kaiserswerth in 1836. Florence Nightingale, a famous nurse from England (The Lady with the Lamp), had interned in Kaiserswerth, which is why the hospital was named after her. On the Diakonie grounds there is also a hotel, a university (focusing on nursing and social affairs), a daycare center, restaurants and much more. The church tower of the neighboring church was shortened in the post-war period because it was in the flight path of a military airfield.
