The post mile posts erected at the beginning of the 18th century had become obsolete by the middle of the 19th century. In 1840, the distance specifications in Saxony were changed, a mile was now 7.5 km long (previously 9 km). The streets were re-measured from 1858 and then the royal Saxon milestones were erected from 1859 to 1866. One of these is still in front of the Löbau train station.

"In the Kingdom of Saxony, preparations for the introduction of the metric system were made in connection with the work of the Normalization Commission and the related leading work by Albert Christian Weinlig and Julius Ambrosius Hülße. [...] After a new survey in 1858, a new system of milestones was created between 1859 and 1865 - the Royal Saxon milestones in the form of station, whole mile, half mile, branch and border crossing stones (from 1840: 1 mile = 7.5 km)." - de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurs%C3%A4chsische_Postmeilens%C3%A4ule#Nachfolger
