Vandring

Again and again you come across the markings of the cross-border hiking trail "Path of Remembrance". The entire course of the path is marked with the dove of peace, it leads to prominent scenes of the war in the German-Belgian border area.

Vandring
In the case of military conflicts, dams are important targets. That is why the Bütgenbach dam was also guarded by the Belgian army. This commando group had the task of blowing up the Berlin Wall if necessary before it fell into the hands of the Germans.
In the early morning of May 10, 1940, the Belgian sentry was overpowered by the Germans and arrested before they could carry out the blast. Even during the German occupation, the dam was constantly monitored by anti-aircraft defenses, so that it survived the Second World War unscathed. Source: information board on site.
