The Torre del Montale is one of the three towers of San Marino, together with the Guaita and the Cesta. It was built in the 14th century and used as a watchtower during the wars against the Malatesta family, who ruled the surrounding area. The tower is located on the top of Monte Titano and is the smallest of the three towers

The capital of the Republic of San Marino, located on Mount Titano, was protected in the city defense system by three castles, the Rocca Guaita, the Castello della Cesta and the Torre Montale, which stand on the rocky peaks of the mountain.
The Montale Tower was built in the 13th century as the last of the three castles in San Marino.

Vandring

The Third Tower known as the Montale Tower dates back to the late 13th century. It is the “smallest” in size, but it played a strategic role in defense: in fact, it is placed in the best position for lookout.

It is a fortress with a pentagonal plan, restored several times over the centuries, most recently in 1935. The interior contains an 8-meter-deep dungeon known as the “bottom of the tower.” Around the Montale can be seen very old large boulders of rock, stacked in a primitive manner in the guise of walls.
