The pond was used in 1925 as a reservoir and compensation storage for the underground power plants located in the Konstantin and Drei-Brüder-Schacht (second underground power plant in the world). The dam is a ring-earth dam with a clay core seal and a tarras wall. Today it is used for the targeted distribution of raw water for the process water supply and the fishing industry. The Konstantinteich is located in the middle of a typical area of old mining with heaps and shafts. [

The Konstantin mine is part of the Alte Mordgrube mining field and was sunk in 1844. After the ore extraction came to an end, a cavern power plant was installed in the 1920s, which supplied electricity for Freiberg until 1972.
