When you come from the old town via the Fünfersteg, the church is on the right, it is picturesquely located on the banks of the Inn. As in earlier times, the cemetery is laid out around the church.

St. Severin's Church in Passau's Innstadt district is considered the oldest church in the city whose masonry remains intact. Picturesquely situated near the Inn River and surrounded by a historic cemetery, it preserves a piece of Passau's early medieval history.

Its origins reach far back: The church dates back to a pre-Romanesque predecessor, possibly even to a foundation established by Saint Severin, who was active in the region in the 5th century. Archaeological excavations in 1976 uncovered the foundations of an even older church – evidence of the long religious tradition of this site.
