The abbey church of Ste-Quitterie contains the relics of Saint Quiteria. According to tradition, she was a Gothic princess. She was beheaded because she did not want to deviate from her Christian faith.
That is the plausible part of the legend. The Middle Ages was the time of storytellers. Stories were told and often embellished when retold. So after her beheading, Saint Quiteria is said to have carried her own head to the place where the crypt is today. There is a spring there that is said to have healing properties for mental illnesses.

The Sainte-Quitterie church is in the Gothic style of the 13th century, except for the apse which dates from the end of the 11th century.
The church is the subject of a classification as historical monuments by the list of 18403. It is also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998 under the roads of Santiago de Compostela in France.

Aire-sur-L'Adour is a station on the Way of Saint James "Via Podiensis" (which goes from Le-Puy-en-Velay to Saint-John-Pied-de-Port), the hiker / pilgrim reaches the site of Nogaro coming after about 28 kilometers and can continue from here towards Arzacq (about 33 kilometers away) the next day.
