The Roman Catholic basilica and the pilgrimage church are dedicated to the Virgin Mary as the patron saint of the island and seafarers. The small pilgrimage church dates from the 14th century. The basilica was added in 1920. As so often in Sardinia, it was simply built on the old building.

The Sanctuary of Nostra Signora di Bonaria is a Catholic place of worship dedicated to the Madonna di Bonaria, the patron saint of Cagliari. Located on the hill of Bonaria, it offers a panoramic view of the city and the surrounding sea. The original building dates back to the 14th century. The sanctuary is a popular starting point for hiking along the southern coast of Sardinia.
