The baroque jewel that was built as a fortified church in the 15th century is located near the Hermitage Palace Park. Late Gothic wall and ceiling paintings from 1430 can be seen behind the alter. The symbols of three of the four evangelists can be seen in the four fields of the vault: the angel (Matthew), the lion (Mark) and the bull (Luke). They appear as winged boats of the sky on a background of stars. Like the wise and foolish virgins on the triumphal arch, they are left over from the rich painting.

The parish church of St. John is located near the palace park "Hermitage" of Margravine Wilhelmine. Her husband Friedrich had it redesigned as a margrave church. The origins of the church go back very far and make it one of the oldest churches in the Bayreuth area. stjohannis-bayreuth.de
